In this episode, I share why our faith should shape our politics, not the other way around. We’ll talk about the First Amendment, the often-misused phrase “separation of church and state,” and how to defend your faith in political conversations with both courage and grace.

If you’ve listened to me for long, you know one of my greatest inspirations is Dr. Frank Turek. His book I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist (co-authored with Dr. Norman Geisler) is still one of my favorites on apologetics. John 20:24-29 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. Repentance

Miracles Happen When We Pray!

I am sure we all have heard about Damar Hamlin. During the game between the Bills and the Bengal’s Damar took a hit and collapsed right after standing up. I watched the hit, I saw it when it happened, and if I am being honest, it really didn’t look that bad. I have seen much worse, and I am sure all of you have as well. What happened over the next hour, day, and week has been a miracle from God.

What is Grace?

Today’s podcast is about one of the most used and probably least understood words in the Christian faith today. GRACE. Better men than me have tried to fully explain grace and have failed. In a small way I only wish today to talk about grace and how it affects us and what we can learn together.

What is this thing that we call Grace? Grace is being let free from the barriers of our sinful desires. One of the best-known definitions of grace is only three words: “God’s unmerited favor.” If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, Grace is the most important substance you can possess because, by Grace thru Faith we are saved. Once you have accepted Christ and “converted” to Christianity the first gift that God gives you is Grace.

At some point someone is going to ask you as a Christian the seemingly simple question. How can we receive Grace?

Leaving Your Church: Is it OK?

The decision to leave a church is a tough one, primarily because of the relationships you create within the body of the church. You make friends you love and have done life with, but there are still times when you must leave. Additionally, it becomes complicated by other issues because there is a perception of disloyalty, disunity, and mistrust. I had someone tell me once that I couldn’t leave a church because it was causing division and was not biblical. In most cases, there is no such thing as an easy way to know whether to leave your church or not. Keeping that in mind some signs make it easier to stomach.

There are tons of questions that come up when you are thinking about leaving a Church. I will tell you from personal experience that the most important thing to do is pray. Spend lots of time with God before making this decision. The things I have talked about are not a complete list by any stretch of the imagination and you certainly won’t have answers to all your questions or concerns. The decision to leave a church must be made with God, who loves you and wants the best for you. Make sure you are making this decision with integrity, prayer, and faith that God will guide you in the best way.

Prove It!!

In today’s review of James 2:14-26, we learn that “faith,” which does not show itself through God-driven works, proves itself to be a faith that will not save. It is nothing more than mere talk. Do you see in life Christians that believe that just checking the box and going to church on Sunday is all that is needed for Salvation but is that enough? Can you be saved and not do what we are commanded to do? I have heard countless times people say something like, “I go to church and Sundays, or I am a good Christian because I pay my tithing.” I love to ask what they did today for the growth of the kingdom when I know the answer already. The puzzled look I get or the non-response speaks volumes. I am not trying to be mean or confrontational, but I am trying to make them understand that just doing those 1 or 2 things doesn’t guarantee you a spot with Christ.

Faith in Hardships

Last week I talked about the Storms in our life, and today, I want to try and build on that by talking about hardships. That is what storms cause, hardships. If you are discouraged by hardships, I want to encourage you to look past the difficulties so that you can embrace the possibilities in front of you.

Hebrews 11:32-12:2 11: 32 And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies. 35 Women received back their dead, raised to life again. There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection. 36 Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. 37 They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted, and mistreated—38 the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground. 39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, 40 since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. 12: 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. Storms of Life

Sometimes I truly love to watch a rainstorm coming. The best place for me to watch a storm is on the banks of almost any lake where you can see the clouds off in the distance and then you start to see the rain roll over the water as it comes towards you. To me it is just beautiful to see this occur in nature and then to watch as it fades away like a memory.

Matthew 8:23-27 “Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

It is not hard to see that we live in a broken and wrecked world. It is everywhere we look. I recently did a podcast asking if we are living in the end times because it seems like we are close based on everything I see. God told us that this would happen. Jesus said in Matthew 24:12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold. Every day it becomes more and more clear that we are living in a wrecked world. We have wrecked marriages, wrecked homes, wrecked families, a wrecked economy, a wrecked political system, and as bad as it is today the closer we get to the return of Christ the worse it is going to get.

Are you willing to die for a lie?

Today my question is simple? Would you be willing to die for a lie? Not just would you die but would you be tortured and die for a lie that you knew wasn’t true? That is the biggest part of the question, that you knew that it wasn’t true. I believe that when people challenge Christianity today, they overlook a key area of evidence. We can trust the testimony of the apostles because so many of them died a martyr’s death because they stood on two truths: The first truth is the deity of Christ and the second is the resurrection of Christ. The men were persecuted, tortured, beaten, and faced death by some of the cruelest and most painful methods we can imagine. Let’s just run through real fast the Apostles.

2 Timothy 3:1–5

1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

These words were spoken by Paul in A.D. 66! This was over 1900 years ago. Yet reading these words is like reading online news from almost any source. They show our sin and rebellion toward God. We have always been stubborn and disobedient toward God.

Right or Wrong: The Moral Argument for GOD!

There are numerous arguments for the existence of God, but one today is so important that I feel like we need to talk about it. You see we have a design argument, a cosmological argument, a first-cause argument, and others but today we need to talk about the Moral Argument for God. Each one of these can take hours to explain but I am going to try and do it in the limited time today.

I have been praying about this message for a long time and just haven’t felt it was time to say it, I will admit that the reason I have not wanted or felt like it was time for this topic is because of my own insecurities and fear. Maybe I won’t do it justice or just confuse someone but at the end of the God, this is what God is directing me to talk about. If you have listened, you know I am a huge fan of apologetics and study it as much as I can. I hope that one day to attend the Cross-Examined Instructors Academy with some of the best apologetics in the world. Because of this you may have heard this argument before, read it in books, or listening to podcasts or some other media outlet, which is ok, but I want you to know this is not something I just decided to talk about. What I am going to say is the same thing you will hear from several other sources.

C.S. Lewis summarized the Moral Argument in Mere Christianity this way:

There is a universal Moral Law
If there is a universal Moral Law, there is a Moral Law giver
If there is a Moral Law giver, it must be something beyond the universe.
Therefore, there is something beyond the universe

What significance do numbers have in the Bible?

Most numbers carry a symbolic purpose in the Bible.

Seven, for instance, also means completeness and perfection; as does the number 3.

In the Bible, numbers can have many purposes, such as conveying something significant in the narrative: prophetically, spiritually, or symbolically.

I want to look at two of these numbers today in the podcast. The numbers 3 and 7 because personally I have seen how much importance they have in my life, and I wanted to dig into them a little more and since I am an IT guy, I love data. I love to research and figure out what is happening. I love researching the truth and understanding how everything fits together.

Have you been hurt by the Church?

For me, one of the biggest issues I have seen within the church is people getting hurt by other Christians. It may seem small to some but large to others. The little comments, the negative looks, the judgment, the fear, the false doctrine, the members that have no idea what real salvation looks like, maybe the neglect from members or is it just the sure volume of landmines that we must navigate just getting in and out of the building. Honestly, it is truly a shame that we even have to have this conversation.

All of this equates to the likelihood of getting “Church Hurt”. If you don’t know what that means it doesn’t mean you haven’t felt it. At the simplest level Church Hurt is: The pain sometimes inflicted by a religious institution – a pain that distances sufferers from their communities and from God. It is kind of a shame that when we commit to a local church that we fear sooner or later it will hurt us.

Life’s Patterns

“For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Gal. 2:19–20).

When you plan a vacation don’t you take the time to carefully think about and plot out where you want to go? How do you want to travel? The route you are going to take. Unfortunately, too many people do not consider life as an adventure to be carefully mapped out prior to takeoff. As Christians, we need to ask ourselves what we expect to receive from life for the coming year and, more important, what we expect to give to life during the months ahead, especially if we don’t spend any amount of time planning the trip.

Free Will

When God created us in his image, he gave us something unique. He wanted to give us something to show us how much he loves us and how much he didn’t want slaves. That unique thing that God has given us all is free will so that we could make our own choices, good or bad, according to what we wanted freely. You may not have recognized that but free will started in Genesis 2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die. Here we are told we are free to eat from any tree but one. We can eat from it but if we do, we know what will happen.

What does it mean to have Strength?

As I started thinking about this next part of Philippians I really wanted to try and understand what it means to be strong or what it means to have strength. If you look up the definition it seems pretty clear but maybe it’s not. The definition says there are 3 options first is the quality or state of being strong: capacity for exertion or endurance. The second option is the power to resist force: solidity, toughness. And the third option is the power of resisting attack: impregnability.

Philippians 4:10-13 10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Have you ever heard someone say don’t let that become your sacred cow? Before we start asking the question about what your sacred cow is we must first identify what a sacred cow really is? If you look it up in the dictionary or google it will tell you that sacred cow is a noun and it means: an idea, custom, or institution held, especially unreasonable, to be above criticism. So, if we try to understand this, I look at what this means I would say it is something we don’t like to question or something that we feel like we are not allowed to question, maybe even taboo to mention it.

The Good Samaritan

A study in 2021 said that 71% of internet users in the US use Facebook regularly. With those high numbers, it is safe to say that someone listening has been scrolling through Facebook and read a post about someone that needs help.

The Parable of the Good Samaritan is a wonderful story that Jesus tells to illustrate how we must love our neighbors as ourselves. It is about a generous person who was ready to provide help to a stranger in distress without hesitation. We should never ignore people when they are in need and assist them no matter who are what they are. The Parable of the Good Samaritan puts the greatest commandment to love others into action. In Matthew 22:36-40 we are told the greatest commandment is to Love God with all our heart and the second part of that is to Love your neighbor as yourself. As we review this Parable from Christ, we must do it with this in mind. We must completely understand what Christ is teaching us in the parable and to do that we have to make sure we look at it in the right context.
